Overview 

SoftLabs was engaged to provide embedded testing contractor services on a complex federal government platform supporting national apprenticeship services, including disability payment processing. The multi-module system integrated API and web layers under an Agile delivery model, with stringent compliance, accessibility, and security requirements. SoftLabs experienced QA professionals are capable of operating across high-assurance environments, including testing with automation skills.  

During sprint releases, regression instability and API failures were causing defect leakage into UAT. Automation coverage was fragmented across environments, and inconsistent test data management was producing unreliable results, eroding release confidence and slowing delivery velocity. This is a challenge commonly reported by agencies and organisations seeking short-term testing or long-term QA uplifts on Agile programs. 

Key Achievements 

  • Designed and implemented a structured regression framework spanning UI and API layers, using Selenium, Playwright, and REST-based testing tools — aligned to modern test automation standards sought by agencies evaluating testing contractors with AI and automation experience. 
  • Standardised test data management practices across environments to eliminate result variability and support repeatable, trustworthy regression cycles. 
  • Introduced daily automated regression runs integrated into the CI/CD pipeline, enabling faster feedback loops and continuous quality visibility across sprint boundaries. 
  • Strengthened defect-triage governance with structured workflows, priority classifications, and clear escalation paths — reducing defect resolution time and improving traceability. 
  • Improved end-to-end traceability between user stories, test cases, and defects using Azure DevOps, ensuring compliance with government audit and reporting requirements. 
  • Delivered knowledge transfer and documentation to support the customer’s internal QA capability uplift. . 

Outcome 

The engagement delivered a measurable reduction in regression defects of approximately 35–40%, stabilised UAT cycles, and materially improved release confidence across the program. The structured approach to automation, data governance, and defect management established a repeatable quality baseline that could be sustained by either contracted or in-house testers going forward.
